I went for a day to the Westhoek: the very West of the country, between the river Yzer and France. It was the only part of the country that wasn't occupied by Germany during WW1 and the most western part of the front of trenches that streched from there to Geneva, 800 kms more to the south east. All over the area you can find traces of WW1. On these pictures: Ieper's Cloth Hall, home of the Flanders Fields museum; Menin gate: a monument to commemorate all 54 896 British commonwealth soldiers who fell in the Ypres Salient before August 1917 and have no known grave. The last picture is Tyne Cot cemetary, where the names of the 34 959 soldiers that dissapeared after August 1917 are inscribed and 11 954 others are buried.
